Pak army Corps commander's Pokemon pajamas emerge in London
In what could possibly be construed as another embarrassment for Pakistan's biggest business conglomerate the Pakistani army, a personal item belonging to Commander of the sensitive Lahore-based IV Corps has been put for sale in a flea market in London. The discovery was made by a team of BBC journalists who were scouting for a breaking story there.
Background
The residence of IV Corps Commander Lt. Gen. Salman Fayyaz Ghani was raided by a group of protestors belonging to Tehreek-e-insaf, the party of former playboy and full time player Imran Khan Niazi this month. Khan goons on the payroll of several agencies ransacked Ghani's house and took away several souvenirs. Missing items include costly stuff dating back to 1947 including a meth snorting 10 inch pipe belonging to Pakistan's Al-Qaid-e-azam Ali Jinnah.
During the time of the raid, Ghani had escaped in the guise of a woman. He was wearing Pak army issued emergency gear including salwar and bangles from a kit issued to every Pakistani general. This kit includes a wig, a full make-up set, fake eye lashes, bangles, 3 set's of women's clothing, open tickets to Riyadh and entertainment magazines. This kit is to be used by these generals in case they are facing an imminent danger of being caught by the Indian Army during a war or otherwise.
When Ghani returned to his house after a week, the place was a mess and all items in it had gone missing presumably taken away by the paid hoodlums. But what Ghani was not aware of was that even his personal items were not spared which included his collection of dolls, soft toys, 3 toy tanks and JCBs, his Lego set and his entire pokemon pajama collection.
Last week, two senior BBC journalists who were out to sniff out a story saw these colorful pajamas hung outside a store in the Hackney flea market in London. When the alleged journalists took a few steps to get a closer look, they saw the insignia of Pakistan army and grew suspicious and curious. When they spoke to the owner of the store, the story unraveled.
The pajama was part of a collection of Pokemon pajamas smuggled out of Pakistan by a gang of smugglers. The pajamas are said to have a curse attached to them as every person who handled them on its way to Hackney experienced some misfortune. The first person who bought these pajamas a certain Arson Khan faced a unique problem within a day of the purchase. Plumbing inside his house broke down and he had to get the whole thing replaced.
The house of another guy who bought this pajama from Khan was burgled and his tricycle was stolen by thieves. The third guy who owned this now infamous pajama was attacked by a gang of Red Pandas on his way to office. This guy sold the pajama to the store in Hackney as he didn't have an appetite for more misfortune.
Once BBC broke the news on the existence of this pajama, a red-faced Pakistani army GHQ summoned Ghani who was already facing plenty of heat for the events of May 9. Ghani has been detained and he will be facing a court of inquiry at a pan shop near GHQ soon, sources said. Pakistan has made a formal appeal to UK to return these stolen pajamas as they were part of its national heritage and pride just like the crow-i-noor,a copper relic, which was stolen from the home of a Jinnah aide in the 1930s (not to be confused with Koh-i-noor stolen by UK earlier), a Pak army spokesperson said.
A source in the UK government meanwhile ruled out the return of the pajamas. "It is the UK government’s [view] that there are no legal grounds for restitution of such stolen goods. Once a stolen artifact enters the UK, then it is considered as the property of his majesty and is treated as such. It is a matter of state policy for the UK. We encourage theft and pilferage of everything. In fact the foundation of our kingdom is based on theft, plunder and dacoity," UK's minister for stolen goods, antiques and uncleiques, Pooerla Braverman said.
Pakistan's political instability agency ISI has launched its own investigation into the incident as well.
