NDTV Working Committee rejects Pranoy Roy’s resignation

4 days after the latest BARC rating was released which showed that news channel NDTV was now being watched by only 3 people in the Roy household (across the whole country), a virtual rebellion broke out with some seniors called G13 asking for the resignation of NDTV leadership. The demand was made on Thursday evening and was backed by many NDTV employees.

On Thursday, alleged television viewership manipulation agency BARC announced that it had resumed the ratings for individual news channels. It even went ahead and released data for Week 10, 2022 on Thursday. The move came almost two months after the Modi government asked BARC to overhaul its rating system to focus more on the shenanigans of anchors rather than the number of viewers.

BARC promptly agreed and the agreement is visible in the latest rating released by the not so useful agency. Republic TV came on top with over 80 percent rating indicating that its anchors were overindulging in drama and outmaneuvering the competition.  Arnab alone got over 60 percent rating for Republic TV

Within an hour of the release of the latest ratings by BARC, all hell broke out at NDTV. Many seniors openly questioned the leadership of the Roy family in general and Pranoy Roy in particular. “The Roy family including their cat Timmy have been at the helm of NDTV for years and they had their day in the sun and should make way for others who can take on the ultra-nationalist news channels that are out there. We are losing in every state and the leadership doesn’t give away its hold on power and this is bad for the channel and the country. Further, we are also losing reporters to other channels. Such losses are pushing us back by decades in terms of market relevance. Further, with the rise of channels such as New Laundry, we have ceded whatever little space we had left,” said Vikram Azad, senior head of news and AC maintenance, NDTV.

At the request of senior leaders, an emergency session of the NDTV Working Committee was called to discuss the BARC debacle and the way forward. At that session, the committee placed its full faith in the leadership of Roy and his family. "We the senior leaders of NDTV reiterate our full faith, loyalty and sycophancy to NDTV's first family," the resolution read. The group dispersed after a round of tea and samosas.

With that, NDTV is now ready for its next debacle and to cede more ground and reporters to other channels.
